James, the New Testament writer may have said it best. “For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away” (James 4:14 NKJV). Even the psalmist saw the brevity of life and recorded, “My days are like a shadow that lengthens, and I wither away like grass” (Psalm 102:11 NKJV). The realization is, our days are numbered. Although none of us know the exact number of days we have left, they are limited. The older I get; the faster time seems to go. The days I have spent on earth far exceed the number of days that remain. While it is sobering, it is also inspiring. It encourages me to make the most of each day. It inspires me to make memories with the special people in my life. Most of all, I am reminded that I want to be remembered. I don’t crave worldwide notoriety. I want those closest to me to have more than a photograph. I want them to have a collage of memories, godly examples, and guiding principles modeled by me. In that way, my life will live on in the hearts and minds of those I hold dear. I’m sure I’m not alone with that desire. As you read the scriptural examples and personal reflections in this study, my prayer is you will be inspired to do the same. I pray you are inspired to partner with God to create a living legacy of hope. So, I ask, How Will You Be Remembered?
